Steamboat Activities

Summer

Ask a local why they decided to live in Steamboat and chances are you'll hear the saying "come for the winter and stay for the summer". That's because summers here are neck-and-neck to winters, as far as role of favorite season goes. In Steamboat, the mountain biking is second to none, the trout are hungrier, the trees have MORE color and the Western Heritage is alive and well with an award winning rodeo series every weekend. Whether you are looking for extreme adventure or alpine relaxation, Steamboat offers activities for all ages and types including mountain biking, cycling, soaking in natural hot springs, fishing, tubing the Yampa river, hunting, camping, hiking, farmers markets, rodeos, hot air ballooning, yoga/pilates, horseback riding, alpine slides, art strolls, plentiful kids activites, and more! Fall

Glowing gold Aspen leaves welcome you into Steamboat's fall and light your path as you hike or bike your way through the hundreds of miles of trails within Routt County. The pace in town also slows, and you'll find it a perfect time to relax from summer's and winter's busier tourist seasons, to enjoy the awesome color that lines the Yampa River and rises from the the valley floor into the surrounding mountains. Most of summer's outdoor activities can be enjoyed well into the Fall months as you await the arrival of the anticipated winter season!

Winter

Winter is Ski Town USA's forte. The snow here is just a little drier than other snow in Colorado, which is why the term Champagne Powder is Steamboat's very own. Whether you negotiate your way down the slopes of the Steamboat Ski Area, or aspire to follow the paths of Steamboat's Olympians (that's 56, since 1932), you'll have more opportunities to play in the snow than you can shake a ski pole at. Outdoor fitness opportunities abound from "skinning" UP the mountain with the added reward of untouched powder on decent, navigating the trails on bikes with fat tires, snowshoes or cross country skis, or spending a long day on the slopes weaving through the world famous aspen trees or traversing the mountain. Steamboat is recognized as a family-friendly destination for good reason. The Steamboat Ski Area offers expansive programing while activities in and around Steamboat are plentiful from snow tubing, sleigh rides, hot air ballooning, hot spring adventures, snowmobiling, ice fishing and more! Spring

Watch the Aspen trees bud as your ski legs begin their hibernation until next winter. In mid-April, it's time to put the snow toys away and get out those hiking boots, bikes, golf clubs, and fly rods. As the days get warmer and longer, you''ll have time enough to enjoy the new, vibrant green mountains with lingering snowy caps. Right out our back door is Mt. Werner, known more famously as Steamboat Ski Area. Sure, "ski area" can sound limiting . . .but, this mountain's open all year with so much going on, you'll benefit from a calendar and a plan.
